Katniss Everdeen meets The Scarlet Letter in this series opener by P.S. I Love You author, Cecelia Ahern. Quite the statement, right? But trust me it’s 100% accurate.
Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan.
But then Celestine encounters a situation where she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule. And now faces life-changing repercussions.
She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found FLAWED.
In her breathtaking young adult debut, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society where obedience is paramount and rebellion is punished. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her-everything.
The cover. I’m a sucker for a good minimalistic cover.
The theme. I appreciated the theme of acceptance of all people and the take on human compassion.
I also read this book in about 14 hours, which is pretty impressive given the size. It’s a pretty quick read.
I’m a lover of YA dystopian novels; they are pretty much my jam. But this one, although really well written, lacked in creativity. It felt like a run-of-the-mill YA dystopian, with a little less romance and an overall predictable plot. Plus, there was so much detail in this book that the story just didn’t move as quickly as it needed to.
Borrow it. Too predictable. Needed more romance, comedy and a little less detail.
